Local tradition says the Tran king Tran Thai Tong set up a base here after giving up the throne, and the temple grew on the site.

The temple is built of carved stone and dark wood and sits right under a limestone cliff, with a small pond and rice fields in front. It is reached along a narrow lane, so most visitors come by bicycle, motorbike or, on our tour, by open-air jeep.

What to see at Thai Vi Temple

Look at the carved stone columns and gates at the entrance, and the main hall with altars to the Tran kings. The temple holds a festival every spring in the third lunar month.
