Boats here are small bamboo or metal sampans rowed slowly across shallow, clear water, often with only a handful of other visitors.

The hills around the reserve are home to Delacour’s langur, a critically endangered primate found only in northern Vietnam. Sightings are not guaranteed – the langurs live high on the cliffs – but the reserve is one of the best places to try, with binoculars and a patient rower.

Visiting Van Long

The boat trip lasts about 1.5 hours and passes a few small caves, water birds and floating weed meadows. It is the quietest of Ninh Binh’s boat trips and a good choice for nature lovers and photographers.

[18
post-1062","eta_place","type-eta_place","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
