You ride as a passenger behind a professional local rider, so there is nothing to learn and no licence needed, while your English-speaking guide leads the convoy and stops wherever there is something worth seeing or tasting.

Who drives?

Your rider does. Every guest sits on the pillion seat of their own electric scooter, behind one of our professional riders, wearing a helmet we provide. Female riders are available on request on all of these tours – just tell us when you book. If you would like a female guide as well as female riders, choose one of our Green Sisters tours instead.

Why go electric in Hanoi?

Electric scooters are almost silent and produce no exhaust on the road. On a scooter tour that makes a real difference: you can hear your guide between stops, you are not stuck in a cloud of fumes at traffic lights, and you notice the small sounds of the city – street vendors, temple bells, the train on Train Street. Electric two-wheelers are becoming common in Vietnam, and Hanoi plans to move its centre away from petrol motorbikes over the coming years, so an eco-friendly scooter tour fits where the city is heading.

Six electric scooter tours

The two-hour city highlights tour covers the Old Quarter, the Hanoi French Quarter and Ba Dinh, with photo stops at Tran Quoc Pagoda, the B-52 relic and Long Bien Bridge. The half-day city tour adds Banana Island, Truc Bach Lake, a local lunch of Pho Ga or Bun Cha and coffee on Hanoi Train Street. Food lovers can ride the evening street food tour, and early risers the Hanoi sunrise tour at 05:00 – tai chi at Hoan Kiem Lake, Quang Ba Flower Market and Pho for breakfast – or its 17:00 sunset version by the Red River.

No special kit is needed: wear clothes you can sit astride in, closed shoes or secure sandals and a light jacket on cool mornings. Hold the grab rail, keep your feet on the footrests and save your photos for the stops – your guide will make plenty of them.

Two tours leave the city: a countryside ride to Co Loa Citadel, rice fields and a lotus garden, and a creative half day at Bat Trang Pottery Village with your own pottery class. All include helmets, rain ponchos and free hotel pickup in the Old Quarter.
