Hanoi Tours with Kids, Families and Seniors (2026 Guide)

Which tours suit children, families and seniors: child prices, jeep child seats, the rules for scooters and e-bikes by age, mobility, and timing the day.

Updated 4 Oct 20266 min readBy the Eco Trip Asia team in Hanoi

Quick answer

Jeep tours are the easiest with young children – every child gets their own child seat and there is little walking. On scooter tours each child rides with their own rider, or on a parent's lap if too small; the e-bike minimum age is 5. Children under 5 are free, 5 to 8 pay 75%, and most tours are gentle enough for seniors. Tell us everyone's ages and any mobility needs when you book.

Child prices at a glance

Our child pricing is the same across all tours:

Age Price
Under 5 Free
5 to 8 75% of the adult price
9 and over Adult price

Include every child in your booking, with their ages, even if they travel free. Every child gets their own child seat in the jeep, so the guide needs to know exactly who is coming and how old they are. On some tours the child rate does not change how the tour works – but on two-wheeled tours, age matters a lot (see below).

Which tours suit families

Every Hanoi jeep tour except the full-day Ba Vi trip (easy to moderate), and every food tour, is rated easy. These are the styles we suggest first for families:

Tour Why it works for families
2-hour Jeep City Highlights Short enough for young attention spans. Passes the landmarks with photo stops rather than going inside. Families and small groups are on our “best for” list. Minimum 2 guests per booking.
Half-day Jeep City Tour with local food The whole city in one go, with Bun Cha, egg coffee and lotus tea included. Everyone stays together in one vehicle.
Bat Trang Pottery jeep tour Hands-on: children make their own piece in a pottery workshop. Some pieces need firing and cannot be taken the same day; your guide explains the options.
Co Loa Citadel countryside jeep tour Rural Vietnam and history, away from city traffic. Lotus flowers bloom mainly from May to August.
Jeep Street Food & Culture Tour Kids who like trying things love it. Tell us about allergies or picky eaters when booking.
Sapa jeep tours Only a short, easy walk between villages on the Muong Hoa Valley tour; the jeep covers the rest.

Families with older children who are happy on two wheels often enjoy the Green Sisters female-rider tours too – mother-and-daughter trips are on the list of who those tours suit best.

Scooter and motorbike tours with young children

On all scooter and motorbike tours, every guest rides with their own rider – children included. A child rides their own motorbike with a professional rider. A child who is too small to sit alone rides on the parent’s lap, held by the parent. For planning:

  • Tell us every child’s age when you book, so we can arrange a rider for each child who rides alone.
  • Helmets are provided, but if you have a child’s helmet that fits well, ask us whether to bring it.
  • For toddlers, a jeep tour is often the most comfortable choice – every child gets their own child seat, in Hanoi and in Sapa.

On our tours: our jeeps have child seats, and every child gets their own seat. Just include all children and their ages in your booking.

Teenagers: ATV and e-bike tours

The ATV tour lists families with teenagers among the people it suits best. Only confident drivers who follow the guide’s instructions take the wheel; children ride as passengers with an adult. Tell us everyone’s ages when you book. The tour is rated moderate and runs off-road in an eco-area, so closed shoes and clothes that can get dusty are a must.

On the self-ride e-bike tours the minimum age is 5, and each rider should be comfortable on a normal bicycle with pedal assistance. A child under 5 can still come along, seated in the middle with a parent or relative. Tell us your children’s ages and riding experience when you book so we can arrange it.

Seniors and travellers with limited mobility

Most of our tours keep walking to a minimum. Here is how the main styles compare, using the difficulty rating on each tour:

Tour style Difficulty What to know
Hanoi jeep city and food tours Easy Mostly seated in the jeep, with short walks at stops. You get in and out of the jeep at each stop.
Ba Vi & Duong Lam full day Easy to moderate 8 hours, with short walks in the park and village. About 1.5–2 hours’ drive each way.
Scooter and female-rider tours Easy You sit as a passenger. Tell us about back or neck problems first.
Sapa full-day jeep Easy Most of the day in the jeep with frequent stops; it suits most ages.
Sapa full-day motorbike Easy to moderate A long day on a motorbike; the jeep may suit you better.
ATV Moderate Self-drive off-road.

If you use a walking aid, have limited mobility or need a wheelchair, message us before booking and describe what you need – including getting in and out of a vintage jeep several times. We will tell you honestly which tour works, and whether a private tour with a slower pace would help.

Why a private tour often suits families best

Most tours can be booked as a group tour or a private tour. On the group tour you may share with a few other travellers. The private tour is just for your party, with your own guide and vehicle, and the timing can be adapted to you. For families that usually means:

  • stops when a child needs the toilet, a snack or a run-around,
  • no worries about a toddler’s mood affecting strangers,
  • a start time that fits around naps (within the times we can confirm), and
  • a guide who can pitch the stories at your children.

In Sapa, each jeep is private for one booking anyway, carrying 2–6 guests with its own driver and guide.

Multi-generation groups

Travelling with grandparents, parents and children together? The jeep is usually the easiest way to keep everyone in one place: each jeep seats up to six guests, and in Sapa larger groups travel in several jeeps together (for Hanoi, message us). On scooter tours everyone rides with their own rider in a small convoy, with each child on their own motorbike with a rider, or on a parent’s lap if they are too small to sit alone. If part of your group wants adventure and part wants comfort, consider booking two different tours on the same day rather than forcing one compromise; our team can help you plan it.

Timing the day: heat, naps and long days

Hanoi summers are hot. Long-term averages for central Hanoi put daytime highs at around 33–35 °C from May to August, and the official tourism site advises staying hydrated and using sunscreen in the hot season. Some practical choices:

  • Go early. Many tours leave at 08:00 (Bat Trang at 07:30). Children are fresher and the streets are cooler.
  • Or go late. Departures at 17:00 or 18:00 avoid the midday heat, and evening food tours end with a meal – handy for bedtime.
  • Think twice about early-afternoon starts in summer. The 12:30 and 13:00 departures suit a family that naps in the morning, but they fall in the hottest part of the day.
  • Choose short over long. The 2-hour city tours are a better first taste than a full day.
  • Keep the full-day tours (Ba Vi, Sapa full-day) for children who travel well in a vehicle.

Departure times differ by tour – check the tour page. For seasons and month-by-month detail see Hanoi weather by month.

Family checklist

  • All children and their ages entered in the booking
  • Allergies and dietary needs noted when booking
  • Message sent first if you need mobility help
  • Bottled water (included on many tours), sunscreen, insect repellent and hats for stops
  • Snacks for fussy eaters – not every dish suits small children
  • Wipes and hand sanitiser for street-food stops
  • A light layer for winter mornings and air-conditioned cafés
  • Personal travel insurance with medical cover for everyone, for the whole trip (insurance is included on our tours)

On our tours: guides are used to children asking a hundred questions. If your child has a special interest – trains, animals, history, pottery – tell us when you book and we will pass it on.

Frequently asked questions

Which Hanoi tours are best for young children?

The jeep tours are usually the easiest with small children: every child gets their own child seat, you stay together in one vehicle, and there is very little walking. The 2-hour city tour suits short attention spans, and the Bat Trang pottery jeep tour is hands-on. Food tours work well for children who like trying things.

Can babies and toddlers join the scooter and motorbike tours?

On scooter and motorbike tours every guest rides with their own professional rider, children included. A child who is too small to sit alone rides on a parent's lap, held by the parent. For toddlers, a jeep tour is usually the more comfortable choice, with a child seat for every child.

What is the minimum age for the e-bike tours?

The minimum age on the self-ride e-bike tours is 5, and each rider should be comfortable on a bicycle. A child under 5 can come along seated in the middle with a parent or relative. Message us with your children's ages before booking so we can set it up.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes. Every child gets their own child seat in the jeep, in Hanoi and in Sapa. Just include all children and their ages in your booking so the guide can prepare a seat for each child.

Are the tours suitable for seniors or travellers with limited mobility?

Most tours are rated easy and keep walking to a minimum, with the jeep tours being mostly seated. If you use a walking aid, have limited mobility or need a wheelchair, message us before booking – including how you manage getting in and out of a vintage jeep – and we will tell you honestly which tour works and whether a private, slower-paced tour would help.

How much do children pay?

Children under 5 are free, children aged 5 to 8 pay 75% of the adult price, and children 9 and over pay the adult price. Include every child and their age in your booking, even those travelling free.

Are strollers practical in the Old Quarter?

Not really – full-sized strollers struggle with parked motorbikes, street trees and uneven pavements. Bring an ultralight compact travel stroller or a baby carrier instead. On the tours themselves, young children travel in the jeep's child seats or with a rider, so you won't need the stroller during the tour.

Are there rest stops and toilets on the tours?

Family itineraries are relaxed, with short shaded rest stops and clean, Western-style toilets at cafes and hotel lobbies along the way. Tell us if anyone needs frequent stops and the guide will plan for it – a private tour makes this especially easy.

Can grandparents, parents and children all travel together?

Yes. The jeep is usually the easiest way to keep everyone together: each jeep seats up to six, and in Sapa larger groups travel in several jeeps together. If part of the group wants adventure and part wants comfort, you can book two different tours on the same day – our team can help plan it.

What should I pack for a tour with children?

Bottled water (included on many tours), sunscreen, insect repellent and hats, wipes and hand sanitiser for street-food stops, snacks for fussy eaters, and a light layer for winter mornings or air-conditioned cafes. Enter all children's ages at booking so the guide can prepare a child seat for each.

Can travellers who use a wheelchair or walking aid join?

Message us before booking and describe what you need, including getting in and out of a vintage jeep several times. Most tours keep walking to a minimum and are mostly seated, and we'll tell you honestly which tour works and whether a private, slower-paced tour would suit you better.
