Why take a Hanoi street food tour?

Hanoi is one of the great street food cities of the world, but it is not always easy to eat well on your own. The best stalls often sell one dish only, open for a few hours, have no English menu and look exactly like the stall next door. A Hanoi street food tour solves that: a local guide chooses the places, orders for you, explains how to eat each dish and tells you where it came from – and you get between stops by vehicle, so you cover far more of the city than you could on foot.

Three ways to ride, one city of food

Our food tours come in three styles. The jeep food tour links six tastings by open-top vintage army jeep: Bun Cha at a Michelin-recognised restaurant, hand-made Banh Cuon, an island feast on West Lake with Pho Cuon, crispy Pho Chien Phong and banana blossom salad, then lotus tea and egg coffee on Hanoi Train Street. The electric scooter street food tour and the street food tour with female riders share a route: sunset on Long Bien Bridge, fruit and tea with a family on Banana Island, Banh Cuon, Banh Mi and Bun Cha, ending with a beer or coffee by the tracks on Train Street.

If you want sightseeing and food in one go, the half-day jeep city tour covers the Old Quarter, Train Street, Banana Island and West Lake and finishes with Bun Cha, egg coffee and lotus tea. Every food and drink listed in the itinerary is included on all four tours. Compare durations and prices in the tour list below.

Jeep or scooter?

Choose the jeep if you are a family or small group who want to stay together, if anyone is nervous on two wheels, or if you want the more sit-down style of the jeep food tour. Choose an electric scooter if you want to feel the city at street level – each guest rides as a passenger behind a professional rider, so no licence is needed. The female riders version adds a female guide and riders from our Green Sisters team, which many solo women travellers prefer.

Eating safely and comfortably

We use busy, established places where locals eat every day, and our guides know which dishes suit first-timers. Portions are tasting-sized at most stops, so come hungry but not starving. If you are vegetarian, vegan, avoid pork or have an allergy, tell us when you book: vegetarian and vegan options are available on our food tours, and your guide will check dishes at each stop. Vietnamese cooking often uses fish sauce, shrimp paste, peanuts and shared kitchens, so for serious allergies please also carry your own medication and a translated allergy card.

Is food included on a Hanoi food tour?

Yes. All food and drinks in the itinerary are included; you only pay for extra drinks or personal purchases.

How many dishes will I try?

Can vegetarians and vegans join a Hanoi street food tour?

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan options are available – please tell us when you book so your guide can prepare.

I have a food allergy. Can I still join?

Usually, yes, but tell us when booking. Fish sauce, shrimp paste, peanuts and shared kitchens are common in Vietnam, so bring your own medication for serious allergies.

Is Hanoi street food safe to eat?

We use busy places where locals eat every day and food is cooked fresh. Your guide will help you choose dishes that suit you.
