The jeep itself: a short history of the UAZ in Vietnam
Our jeeps are restored Soviet-made UAZ models, the light four-wheel-drive vehicle built in Ulyanovsk from the early 1970s to replace the older GAZ-69. Simple, tough and easy to repair, the UAZ-469 and its relatives were supplied to the armies of the Soviet bloc and its allies, and Vietnam was one of them. For decades the open-top, olive-green UAZ was the commander’s car of the Vietnamese army – it still leads the parades on National Day, 2 September, with officers standing up to salute the crowd.
Vietnamese drivers nicknamed it the U oat, after the sound of “UAZ”, and many older Hanoians remember it as the vehicle of officials and the military when private cars were rare. Today, with modern cars everywhere, a restored army jeep turns heads in the street – children wave, and grandparents often smile and point. Our jeeps are maintained for passenger use and driven only by our own professional drivers.

What to wear and bring, and staying safe
Dress for an open vehicle: light layers, closed shoes or sturdy sandals, sunglasses and sunscreen, and a jacket in winter – the breeze in an open jeep feels cooler than the city. We bring rain ponchos. Stay seated while the jeep is moving, keep your arms inside and follow your guide when you step off.
A jeep tour is not a museum tour. On the city routes most landmarks are seen from the jeep or at short photo stops, so the day stays relaxed and moving. If you want to spend an hour inside a museum or the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, plan that for another morning on your own.

Best time to go on Hanoi jeep tours
Usually the most pleasant months: dry, sunny and mild – perfect weather for an open-top jeep.
Cool and often grey, sometimes with fine drizzle. Bring a jacket; the breeze in an open jeep feels colder than you expect.
Hot and humid, with heavy but often short showers from about May. Choose a morning or 17:00 departure to avoid the midday heat.

For most visitors, yes. In half a day you cover sights that are spread across the city, with a local guide and no traffic stress, and the half-day tours include food. If you prefer to go inside every museum, a walking day may suit you better.
How many people fit in one jeep?
Each jeep seats up to six guests, plus the driver. Larger groups travel in several jeeps together.
How much does a jeep tour in Hanoi cost?

Yes. Children under 5 join free, children aged 5–8 pay 75% of the adult price, and from 9 the adult price applies. Jeep tours are a good choice for families because everyone rides together.
What happens if it rains?
Tours run in rain or shine, and we provide rain ponchos. Your guide may change the order of stops to keep you comfortable. If we have to cancel because the weather is unsafe, you can move the tour to another date free of charge or choose a full refund.
Can I book a private jeep tour?
Yes. Every jeep tour can be booked as a private tour, with your own guide and jeep and timing adapted to your party.
Do you pick up from my hotel?
Hotel pickup and drop-off are free in the Old Quarter. If you stay elsewhere, choose “hotel outside the Old Quarter” when booking and we will confirm, or meet the guide at the starting point.
