About Moana Sapa

Moana Sapa is a photo park on the hillside at the south-eastern edge of Sapa town, built around a big view over Muong Hoa Valley. Across about one hectare of terraces and decks it has more than a dozen photo installations, a café and a restaurant, all looking out over the rice terraces with Fansipan and the Hoang Lien Son range behind.

The park takes its inspiration from Bali and the South Pacific. Its best-known pieces are a Balinese-style stone gate that seems to open onto the clouds, a giant golden hand reaching over the valley, a tall Moana statue standing in a reflecting pool, an infinity lake with a white piano, and swings that hang out over the slope.

Is Moana Sapa worth it?

It depends on what you love. Moana Sapa is not a natural or cultural site; it is a place designed for photos. If you want striking pictures with the valley behind you and do not want to hike, it is fun and quick. If you prefer authentic landscapes and village life, spend your time in Lao Chai and Ta Van instead — or do both, as our tours do.

Tickets and practical tips

Tickets are bought at the entrance and usually include a drink; packages with costume rental cost a little more. On busy weekends and holidays there can be queues at the most popular installations, so come early. Clouds can roll in quickly — if the valley is hidden, wait a little: mist often moves on within minutes.

Our Muong Hoa Valley Jeep tour finishes with photos at Moana’s viewpoints on the way back to town, and our Instagram tour and full-day motorbike tour with female riders stop here too. The Moana ticket is not included, so you can choose whether to go in.

  1. Pose at the Bali gate

Go first, before queues build. Stand slightly back so the gate frames the sky.

Best from a slightly lower angle so the valley fills the background.

  3. Try the swing

The swings hang over the slope — hold on tight and follow the staff’s instructions.

  4. Photograph the infinity lake

On a still morning the water reflects the sky and mountains.

  5. Rent a costume

Hmong-style or colourful outfits are available for a small extra fee or in combo tickets.

  6. Have your free drink at the café

Sit on the terrace with a coffee and watch the clouds move through the valley.

  7. Eat at the restaurant

Local dishes such as grilled stream fish, sticky rice in bamboo and hotpot are on the menu.
